Helicopter Flights

Australia is packed full of beautiful natural wonders as well as boasting some of the most visually impressive cities in the world. The best way to explore these places is by one of many  Helicopter Flights available.

There is something about taking off in a Helicopter that brings a smile to people’s faces, the feeling of weightlessness becomes apparent as you lift to a hover before moving into forward flight and climbing up to cruise altitude.

Helicopter flights and Joy Flights can be found in a lot of Australian cities especially the larger ones. Whether you are at the Top End of Queensland or the Far South of Tasmania if there is something worth seeing you can rest assured that there is a Helicopter operator nearby just waiting to show you around their “backyard”.

Why choose a Helicopter?

Superior Visibility

Why choose a Helicopter over an Aeroplane?, Helicopters have several distinct advantages over Aeroplanes for the purpose of sightseeing, firstly the visibility from inside a Helicopter is far superior to that of an Aeroplane. From the inside of a Helicopter passengers have over 180 degrees of unobstructed horizontal viewing and 180 degrees of unobstructed vertical views, compare this to an Aeroplane where you have smaller windows, wings to the sides and a nose out in front which nobody can see over. The doors of a Helicopter can also be removed, further enhancing passenger’s views and adding to the exhilaration of Helicopter Flights.

A Helicopter is able to fly slower than an Aeroplane providing a better platform for viewing and photography. Helicopters require very little room to land making their environmental impact minimal compared to that of an Aeroplane; this also means they can land practically anywhere giving them access to places that Aeroplanes can only dream of landing; this in turn gives passengers the chance to explore these places up close, whether it be a boat cruise or a bush walk.

Safety

It is a common misconception that the Aeroplane is safer than the Helicopter because people believe a Helicopter simply falls from the sky in the unlikely event of an engine failure. This couldn’t be further from the truth, in fact a Helicopter does not drop from the sky in the case of an engine failure, with correct handling techniques(which all commercial pilots are trained for) a Helicopter can make a safe and controlled emergency landing in almost any terrain. Compare this with an Aeroplane which needs a clear area of considerable size in which to land and,  it is easy to see that a Helicopter would be the safer of the two aircraft given the fact that most scenic or joy flights are conducted over remote areas away from designated runways or over densely  populated cities where long , clear runways are few and far between.

Before any Helicopter flight you will be given a safety briefing,  detailing emergency procedures, safety around the Helicopter, operation of doors; seatbelts and safety equipment, and what you are allowed and not allowed to touch inside the Helicopter.  The safety requirements can differ for the Helicopter according to whether you are flying  over water or land.
